Mistral releases weights for trillion-parameter Mistral Large 4, aimed at cyber defence
Businesses and governments can now download and run Mistral Large 4 themselves. The French company is pitching the model for detecting and responding to cyber threats.
French AI company Mistral said on 29 October that it has made the weights of Mistral Large 4, its open-weight model with a trillion parameters, available on Hugging Face and through its API. The model, nicknamed Le Chonk, was first presented earlier in October.
Mistral says ML4 is comparable in performance to the Chinese open-weight model GLM-5.3 while using 47 percent fewer tokens per task. Pierre Stock, Mistral's vice president of science, told TechCrunch that organisations can run the model on their own premises and that access cannot be cut off because the weights are open.
The release puts a large open-weight model in the hands of companies and public agencies that want control over their own data and systems.
